Frosty and foggy

This is my front yard!

Ok these photos are actually from a few days ago, but I just got around to getting them off my camera. The morning was so foggy it was creepy. I felt like I was in a bubble!

Baby, It's Dangerously Cold Outside!

I can't believe it got even colder! At 8:15 this morning it was -21 degrees in my yard. The poor animals! I made sure to restock the birdfeeder. I quick snapped these pics.

I try to give the birds water all winter by using a heated dog bowl. It keeps the water just above freezing. The rock in the center makes it easier for the birds to drink. You can see the frost is creeping in.

Birdie birdie

I was doing some much needed weeding out fron of my house the other week and I stumbled upon this nest on the ground. The nest belongs to a Brown Thrasher. This year we have had many new birds at our feeders, including these Thrashers. I had to get out a bird book because I'd never seen them before. We have two nesting pairs in our yard.
This is the best photo I could get of one of the parents.

A bit fuzzy, but I didn't want to stick around the nest too long. So sweet!

Sitting Pretty

8 x 10 collage on wood box

I made this last month and I just wanted to share this collage. I love the way it turned out. 

I painted on it more than the others.  I may have to keep this one! 

A Peek at the Process

I made this a while ago but wanted to show you a bit of before, during, and after.

This design was going to be (and still might) an 8x 10 collage on a box. I had this wood frame I had previously covered in paper, so I just adapted the design.

Look at my messy floor! This was made upstairs at my dining table. After a full day of art, 

I had a mess to clean up before dinner.

All done!   Sold at Craftstravaganza too...very cool!

Busy as a mole

April has arrived and most of the snow in our yard is gone. 

We discovered that the moles have had a party this late winter. Snow melts and the dirt clumps appear! All over the yard are mole tunnels and dirt mounds. The mice were busy too! Cute little mouse nest.

Finally I spotted a robin hopping around yesterday. I love robins. During the summer, when I'm busy weeding in the garden, picnicking with the kids, or just sitting and reading a book, there always seems be a robin hopping around  nearby. I love the peep-peeping.  As a family, we keep an eye on the nearby Nest full of gorgeous blue eggs. We name each of the hatchling, have a funeral and burial when we find one dead. Poor birdies...I even made a shrine to honor the little guys. For all the little hatchlings.

I'm feeling soooo much better. It must have been the flu. It came on so fast and now I'm just tired. I'm getting everything ready for this weekend.
I know it will be very cold, but please come to the Dells for the
Flake Out Festival

Yes it will be cold, but there is arts and crafts inside...activities for kids.
Then brave the cold for a while and enjoy the ice carving and snow sculptures!

This is January in Wisconsin so it will be cooooold!
